Spiders Exterminator in Southwest Missouri, Southeast Kansas, Northeast Oklahoma

Household pests invade your living spaces with the intent of breeding, protection from the weather, food sources, and moisture. A spider, such as the brown recluse and black widow, can infest in colonies and pose a threat should they come in contact with your family. Every home should be protected with spider removal from an experienced exterminator, as well as provided with a pest control plan to ensure they don’t come back.

Brown Recluse Spiders:

There are a lot of spiders that can easily be confused for this predator, and most people don’t get close enough to take a good look at their bodies. If you happen to catch a spider in your home that you suspect is a recluse, there are distinct markings that will help make a determination. A recluse is obviously brown in color, but it can be identified by the dark shape on their back(cephalothorax) that is similar to a fiddle or violin shape.

Brown Recluse Spider Bites:

If bitten by this spider, you may not notice any signs until the venom has time to cause soreness and pain. These feelings tend to feel intense within a minimum of 6 hours from the time of the bite, and you will be able to see redness and two puncture holes in the area. The venom causes gradual tissue damage that will result in swelling and a blister within an average of 10-14 days. When untreated, a spider bite may continue to kill tissue and spread infection through the open ulcer.

Facts About Brown Recluse Spiders:

  • Eggs hatch within roughly a month of being deposited, mature into adult spiders within a year and have a total lifespan between 2-4 years
  • Can be found indoors or outside, and have a mostly nocturnal lifestyle.
  • Prefer to feed on soft-bodied insects (living or dead), such as crickets, cockroaches, and silverfish.
  • Fully grown adults typically don’t have a body length over .5 inches.
  • Mainly found in central and southern states including here in Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma

Black Widow Spiders

Black Widow Spiders

One of the most recognizable and ominous spider breeds is a dangerous and terrifying widow. Most people would say that the spider is solid black with a distinct red hourglass marking, but it may also be a dark shade of brown with markings in a bright orange color.

Black Widow Spider Bites

A bite is unlikely to cause a fatal injury, but it is painful and dangerous. Unlike a recluse bite, most people notice the intense burning pain of the widow bite immediately. Their venom causes a severe reaction in some people, causing symptoms like muscle stiffness and labored breathing. Others may not notice much more than itching, burning, or a minor rash. Since the widow venom affects the human nervous system, it’s important to seek emergency medical attention. Children are more vulnerable to these bites so take extra precautions if you feel that you’re dealing with this type of bite.

Spider Facts:

  • Often feed on other spiders, flying insects, caterpillars, or beetles that get caught up in their silk webs.
  • Females live up to 3 years and grow to 1.5 inches long. Males only live 1-2 months are smaller in size.
  • New eggs hatch around 30 days after a sac is deposited, and most babies don’t survive to adulthood (3 months).
  • Mostly active at night, but they are known to spin webs during the daytime.
  • Active hunters that hang upside down from their web to wait for prey to come close enough to ensnare.
