Common Rodents Found in Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma

The House Mouse is a small mammal of the order Rodentia, characteristically having a pointed snout, large rounded ears, and a long and hairy tail.

Size: 2.5 to 3.75 inches long

Behavior: Mice are nocturnal creatures but are occasionally spotted during daylight hours. Mice are typically only seen during the day when there is a large infestation.

Common symptoms of a mouse infestation are mouse droppings, urine odors, gnawed holes in walls and baseboards, scampering noises, and unusual pet behavior.

It is possible for rats to transmit diseases to humans. They can transmit disease if they bite or scratch humans and also by leaving their droppings and urine around the home.

Size: Approximately 13-18 inches in length

Behavior: Rats are nocturnal and live in packs. These medium-sized rodents are omnivores eating insects, seeds, fruits, eggs, and small animals.

Humans can also get sick when rats contaminate their food or run across counter tops where food is later prepared.
